2022 Thanksgiving in a Box

On November 16, 2022, the Pathfinders of Edinburg SDA Church came together to prepare fifty (50) special packages for families in need. Called "Thanksgiving in a Box," this initiative was designed to bring hope and sustenance to struggling families in San Carlos, Edinburg, TX, during the Thanksgiving season.

Each box contained essential food items sourced from the Adventist Community Services Ministry Food Pantry of Edinburg SDA Church. Advent SHARE Ministries (ASM) generously donated $1,200 to help purchase additional canned goods and food items, ensuring that every family received a well-stocked package. Adding an extra touch of warmth, Edinburg SDA Church member Maggie Yoo donated fifty (50) blankets, providing much-needed comfort during the cold season.

Beyond food and essentials, each box also included a copy of Steps to Christ, offering spiritual encouragement and hope to the recipients.

Originally planned as a door-to-door distribution, the event was adjusted due to a forecast of extreme cold weather. Alicia Rodriguez, Director of the San Carlos Endowment Center, reached out to Pastor Victor Ramirez of Iglesia Vino Nuevo, who graciously offered their church community center as a distribution site.

On the afternoon of November 19, 2022, following the Sabbath service, the Pathfinders traveled to San Carlos for the distribution event. Before handing out the boxes, the Pathfinder Ukulele Group performed uplifting music for the families. The event was not just about providing food and gifts but also about sharing kindness, faith, and a sense of community.

Through the combined efforts of Advent SHARE Ministries, Edinburg SDA Church, and generous donors, Thanksgiving in a Box became more than just a package—it became a symbol of love, care, and hope for those in need.
